Books you've never finished?

This is basically what my TBR shelf looks like @_@

Alright so, before I started reading so many books, I used to have a pet peeve about not finishing them. Once I started a book, I just had to finish it! It's not that the book was particularly phenomenal,  I just like to know how everything ends. The same goes for movies. However, now that I'm speeding through five books a week, I simply don't have the time and patience to finish every single book I start, especially if it fails to capture my interest halfway through. I'm not sure if that's necessarily a good or bad thing. Should I take the time to finish books I don't entirely enjoy? Buying a book you never finish reading is like buying a shirt you're never going to wear.  I don't exactly think that my taste in literature is becoming more selective, but it's weird because I've never really had this problem before! What do you make of this situation? Yes I know it's trivial, but I just can't help finding the little queer habits in my reading routine. :)

  1. I used to be like that too--if I started it, I had to finish it. But if a book doesn't pull me in enough, I could be spending that time on something else. Move on to something better! I'm getting more selective about books I buy vs books I check out from the library. I don't like spending money on books I won't even consider reading again.
Don't feel bad about it! It's YOUR time. Don't let a bad book steal it from you.

  2. If I don't like a book I don't finish it. I have far too many books to get trhough, if I read every single one of them it just wastes more time and I don't enjoy reading as much. XD

  3. I used to make myself finish every book I started, too. But once I began reading so many books I kind of gave myself permission to drop one without finishing. But I only drop books that I'm hating, and I've only done that twice. It's still hard for me. :)

  4. If you are really forcing yourself to read it, and you can't stand it and it's like tortute, quit it. It's not good if you're not enjoying it.

  5. I can hardly ever put down a book that I've started. Unless its terribly boring (like an old classic) then I'm gonna finish. Otherwise I just feel like a quitter. :P Then again I'm pretty good at gauging what I like and dislike so I normally don't run into a bad book. :)

  6. I used to be bad about not finishing a book if I didn't like it. Within the last two years, I've become an avid reader, when I detested reading from the time I was born until I finished college. But one series I began stopped me of that. It was the Blue Blood series. The first book was just okay, and I told myself I wasn't going to waste my money and time with the second. However, I am so glad I did. With the second book, I couldn't put it down, and it flew from there. Although now, I research a lot of reviews (goodreads & blogs) before I purchase any book, so I know I'm spending my money wisely and on something that will take me on an epic adventure.
